Caring for your jewellery
The DO list
-
Wipe gemstones, oxidised & non-oxidised metal with a clean, soft cotton cloth after use.
-
Wipe your silver with a silver polishing cloth after use (unless it is oxidised silver and you wish to retain the finish).
-
Wipe your pearls with a damp cloth after wearing them, otherwise their lustre will become dull.
-
Use only very gentle soap solution with your fingers or a very soft brush to clean your non-oxidised metal jewellery. Dry immediately after washing.
-
Store individual pieces of jewellery separately & protected with soft cloth or tissue or in their individual box with padding.
-
Gently wipe gold-plated silver with a damp cotton cloth.
The DON'T list
-
Don't clean soft gemstones with a harsh cleaner (silver dip, ultrasonic cleaners, hot solutions, or any abrasives) as it will damage and potentially destroy them.
-
Don't clean oxidised (blackened) silver with silver polish as it will wipe the patina off.
-
Don't scrub precious metals & gemstones with any rough, sharp, metal containing material.
-
Don't spray/apply perfume or body lotions/creams/oils on pearls and other soft gemstones. Remember the saying: put the pearls on last and take the pearls off first.
-
Don't have a bath or shower, or go swimming with your jewellery on, or store your jewellery in the bathroom.
-
Don't wipe gold-plated silver with a silver polishing or abrasive cloth/material.
-
Don't pull handcrafted jewellery pieces down or apart, or let anyone else do it.
